SAN ANTONIO – With Thanksgiving just around the corner, the City of San Antonio Animal Treatment Services is providing some tricks for pet owners to get a safe plus happy Thanksgiving.

  • Be sure to develop a safe, comfortable place for the pet to relax with plenty of fresh food, water, plus toys.
  • Unfamiliar encounters can frighten your pet. Look for any tighten or aggressive behavior.
  • Turkey bone fragments are a choking hazard. Chocolate bars, onions, garlic herb, and raisins are all dangerous for our pets to consume. Candies and gums with the artificial sweetener Xylitol may also be toxic in order to pets.
  • Alcohol should not be given to a pet, a sip or two can be fatal.
  • Ensure your pet has some type of identification in the event they fail to find a way out like an imprinted tag along with your contact number.
  • Plan well in advance if your dog is staying with a friend, an animal sitter, or even at a boarding kennel throughout the holiday.
